The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has approved the Board’s request to proceed with the construction of a replacement school for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Amherstview.
The replacement school will be constructed on the current grounds of the school, beside the existing school. This $28,279,689 construction project will include 449 pupil places, and three child care rooms for a total of 49 licensed spaces.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School will remain a kindergarten to Grade 8 school that is dual track, French Immersion and English learning.
“Our Board realized a need for the reconstruction of this school as Amherstview continues to grow,” said David DeSantis, Director of Education. “Our commitment to excellence in Catholic education continues for this expanding and vibrant community.”
The Board anticipates a construction start date of late 2024. While construction is being completed, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School community will continue to be housed in the existing building.
This project is part of the province's capital investment program to support students with better learning spaces.
